Today’s subject “What is brake break-in and what can I expect”? I am going to read to you the break-in statement that is on each invoice or estimate. This helps clients know what to expect. Also what is “good and expected” and what is “bad and not expected”. As read from a typical invoice.
BREAK-IN PERIOD FOR NEW BRAKE PADS OR SHOES IS IMPORTANT FOR LONG LIFE AND SMOOTH QUIET OPERATION. THE FIRST 50 MILES BRAKE PADS AND SHOES ARE OPERATING HOTTER THAN NORMAL MATING TO THE ROTOR OR DRUM SURFACE. DURING THIS TIME IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO OVER STRESS AND OVER HEAT THE SYSTEM. THIS CAN CAUSE BURNING IN THE PAD OR SHOES FACE. DURING THE BREAK-IN PERIOD LIGHT ODOR CAN ALSO BE NORMAL. HEAVY BURNING SMELLS OR SMOKE IS NOT NORMAL. THE BREAK-IN PERIOD IS NORMALLY 50 MILES. PEDAL HEIGHT AND FIRMNESS SHOULD RISE DURING THIS PERIOD AND CONVERSELY A DROPPING PEDAL INDICATES ADJUSTS ARE NEEDED. THANK FOR BUSINESS. IF NEEDS ARISE PLEASE CALL AT 772/283-4445. THANK YOU AGAIN.
